Brown Bear

The Scandinavian Brown Bear is an omnivorous mammal. Its preferred habitat is coniferous forests and wood-clad mountains. It hibernates during the winter.

Ducks

We have two different breeds of ducks in Bjørneparken: Indian Runner Duck (the picture) and Muscovy Duck.

The Indian Runner Duck is an unusual, small, domestic duck. It stands upright like a penguin but instead of waddling it runs around in search of food.

The Muscovy Duck belongs to the Dabbling Duck subgroup and prefers to remain on land. The Muscovy duck comes in a wide variety of colours.

Goat

We have three different breeds of goats in Bjørneparken: Cashmere Goat, Norwegian Dairy Goat and African Dwarf Goat.

The Norwegian Dairy Goat is descended from the Norhtern European Landrace Goat and has a great variety in physique, colour and coat pattern.

The Cashmere Goat is probably most know for its soft wool, lustrous wool with exceptional heat-retaining properties which is used to make shawls and scarves, among other items.

A dwarf goat is a small breed of goat, which originated in West Africa. The dwarf goat is more peaceful than an ordinary goat, as well as being even tempered and hardier.

Hedgehog

The Hedgehog is a nocturnal animal during the summer that hibernates in the winter. It protects itself against predators with the help of up to 7,000 strong spines!

Lynx

The Lynx is Scandinavia’s only wildcat. It is found virtually everywhere in Norway but is seldom sighted – it is afraid of humans and can easily conceal itself.

Moose

The moose is the largest animal in the deer family and is often referred to as the king of the forest. It can run very quietly through dense woodland at speeds of up to 60 km/h.

Rabbit, pot-bellied pig, sheep

As well as rabbits, you will find pot-bellied pigs and sheep.

The Rabbit is a social animal that reproduces quickly forming large colonies. It can produce 5-6 young up to seven times per year.

The Pot-Bellied Pig is an ordinary domestic animal in the Far East. There are five varieties, of which four are from Vietnam and one is from China.

The Sheep was one of the first animals to be domesticated by man, in the Middle East, over 10,000 years ago. Today, the domestic sheep is common to most parts of the world.

Red Deer

The Red Deer is common to large parts of Europe, Asia and North America because it is extremely shy – it disappears at the first whiff of danger.

Red Fox

The Red Fox is a predator belonging to the canine family, renowned for its litheness and cunning. It uses a combination of still hunt and stalking to capture its quarry.

Roe Deer

The Roe Deer has large eyes and ears and is the smallest deer in Norway. During the autumn, roe deers create ‘witch circles’ in the landscape.

Wolf

The Wolf is the largest species in the canine family. It can run 60 km in the course of one day’s hunting and howl to other wolves that are 6 km away. The wolf is a protected species.

Amphitheatre

The amphitheatre in Bjørneparken has capacity for 1,200 spectators.

The theatre performance "Dyrene i Hakkebakkeskogen" is played here from 7 July to 8 August, except Mondays and Tuesdays.

FRIKAR dance company will also perform here from 15 to 19 July with their performance "KRUK!"
